My Digital Photography workshop experience | Dublin Photography School

Hi Adoreabuddies,

I hope you have all been keeping well and having fun. I recently visited the Dublin Photography School in the Carmelite centre in Dublin. I did the one day digital SLR photography course and couldn't wait to tell you how I got on.

I have always loved taking pictures, noting on a professional level just in general. I have scrapbooks upon scapbooks full of pictures from holidays, trips and school events. I love capturing a happy memory and being able to look at that image and remembering that moment for years to come. Then I started blogging and began taking different kind of photos altogether. Pictures of beauty products such as lipsticks, mascaras, lotions and potions. The more I blogged the more important better quality pictures became. Last year I was very fortunate to be able to buy my very first fancy pants camera, the Canon EOS 650D . After my car it's the most I've ever spent on one item so it was a big deal and it took me a few weeks to woman up and buy it!

I could not have been any more excited when it arrived. I began taking new photos for my blog immediately and couldn't believe the difference in quality. Sometimes I even used my phone for blog photos so the Canon was a huge improvement.

Shortly afterwards though I became a little bit lost with the Canon. There are so many buttons, so many different options. I didn't know what they meant let alone how to use them properly. I was able to take photos and use them for blog posts but I knew I wasn't using the camera to it's full potential.

That's were Dublin Photography School comes in. They offer a one day digital SLR photography course for €135. This course will leave you with a full understanding of how to use your camera. You will also leave with some great tips and techniques on how to improve your photography skills. I learnt a lot about how to work with light (natural and artificial) properly and the instructor Shaun and his assistant Danny were on hand to answer questions when needed. It was a very relaxed course and the day flew by. It's also in the city centre so you can hit the shops on your break if you want. Just saying!!

Back to the course! Other subjects you will cover include:

Understand Shutter speeds.
Understand Aperture and depth of field.
Understand White Balance.
Understand Flash photography, indoor and outdoor.
Understand all your Cameras settings.
Understand different Lenses, Filters and Tripods.
Black & white conversion.
How to freeze action in your photographs.
How to improve your landscapes.
Introduction to digital imaging.
Top ten photography tips

Near the end of the course we got to go outside and practise some of what we had learned on the day. I decided to take a photo the way I normally would and then use what I had learned to take the same photo and compare the difference. I was able to adjust the ISO and aperture, something I hadn't a clue about a few hours before! Now they aren't pieces of art, I just wanted to show you how much of a difference it makes when you know how to make custom changes to the settings on your camera.
It has opened my eyes so much. Now that I know how to use my camera properly I know what I am capable of doing and I have so many ideas on what I want to use it for now. I would whole heartedly recommend this course if you are interested in photography. I think the knowledge I gained on this course is well worth the course cost. On the day you will also receive morning tea/coffee, course hand outs, resource CD, computer editing software and a pen and note pad for taking notes.

Would you take a course like this? Leave your comments below.

  1. Learn how to start your own all natural skin care regimen from Buy Argan Oil for Skin. No longer will you need to rush to the pharmacy in order to keep your skin healthy looking and smooth.

  2. I would love to take this course, need to get organized and find some time.

  3. The photography is looking awesome. I would like to tell that I have also recently came across a school named my photo sharing who is providing the basics of photography to the beginners.

  4. I really want to invest in a DSLR camera, but I am apprehensive as there's so much choice, it's a little over-whelming! I would definitely attend a photography workshop though, what a great idea! X
